History and Mission Statement

Citizens Bank was chartered on May 4, 1934.  Federal Regulators required that the Bank of New Haven and Farmer’s Savings Bank consolidate to create Citizens Bank of New Haven.  After the stock market crash in 1929 and the onset of the “Great Depression” the two banks were operating under strict restrictions during the 1930’s.  In 1933 the two banks were required to close by the State Finance Commission.  The banks re-opened but allowed customers to only withdraw 50% of their deposits.  Federal regulations required that 50% of the assets of both banks should be used to start a new bank.  The two banks consolidated and formed Citizens Bank of New Haven.  The directors elected Dr. W.F. Eimbeck as president of the newly formed bank.  The new bank issued 500 shares valued at $100 each to begin its capital account of $50,000.00.  During the 1950’s, Citizens Bank of New Haven increased its capital stock from $50,000.00 to $100,000.00 and achieved assets of over one million dollars.  By the 1960’s Citizens Bank’s assets grew to four million dollars. Citizens Bank operated at its Front Street Location from it’s beginning in 1934 until 1995.  In 1977, the bank board decided to build a new facility at the intersection of Highway 100 and Circle Drive.  This facility would have the town’s first drive-up window service.  The uptown location was expanded again in 1984, to its current size. In 1985 Citizens Bank opened a loan production office in Gerald.  A full service Gerald location was opened in 1992, the Pacific location in 1996, the Washington location in 2000, and the Marthasville location in 2007.  The Marthasville location ceased operation in 2014.

Today, Citizens Bank is conveniently located throughout Franklin County, operating full-service banks in New Haven, Gerald, Pacific and Washington.  Citizens Bank employees around 70 employees and has current assets of about $320,000,000.00.
